Slam Out Loud
Founded by alumni of Harvard and the National University of Singapore, Slam Out Loud (SOL) is a pioneering not-for-profit organization harnessing the transformative power of the arts. SOL enables children from disadvantaged communities to build critical Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills by bringing artists into classrooms and creating supportive, expressive spaces. Since 2017, they have impacted over 300,000 children in-person and reached approximately 10.5 million digitally. Their innovative approach and impact have received recognition from esteemed bodies such as the OECD, World Bank, LEGO Foundation, and UNESCO, with partnerships spanning UNICEF, Girl Rising, HP, and the Rainmatter Foundation. Role
As a Nabha-SOL Community Leader, you will facilitate arts-based SEL learning in underserved schools, empowering children through creative expression and strengthening community engagement with the arts.
What You’ll Do
- Design and lead arts-based SEL sessions in two elementary schools.
- Conduct weekly classroom sessions and adapt to school schedules.
- Create lesson plans leveraging visual/performance art to promote student voice.
- Track student progress using introductory and end-of-year assessments.
- Observe and reflect on teaching practices.
- Conduct weekly home visits to understand students’ backgrounds and build caregiver relationships.
- Facilitate parent and teacher well-being circles, and stakeholder meetings.
- Design and implement a Community Art Project grounded in local needs.
- Attend training, learning circles, and weekly check-ins.
- Regularly document sessions, home visits, reflections, and progress.
- Collaborate with school leaders for a cohesive learning experience.
- Organize mid-year and final art showcases and represent SOL at events.
What You’ll Need
- Fluency in Punjabi (spoken and written).
- Willingness to reside full-time within the local Patiala community.
- Experience/expertise in visual or performing arts.
- Graduate in any stream (final-year students eligible if coursework completes by July 2025).
- Passion for using the arts and SEL to empower children.
- Organizational and facilitation skills.
- Empathy, humility, and openness to diverse experiences.
- Comfort working in low-resource, rural settings.
