Indian Institute for Human Settlements

IIHS is a national education institution dedicated to the equitable, sustainable, and efficient transformation of Indian settlements. Founded in 2009, it focuses on addressing the challenges and opportunities arising from India's rapid urbanization. By 2050, half of India's population will live in urban areas, necessitating well-educated professionals to manage this transition effectively. IIHS aims to establish a National University for Research and Innovation, offering interdisciplinary education and research programs to equip future urban practitioners with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle urban challenges. Through its research, practice, and advisory services, IIHS supports state capacity building and shapes urban development policies to ensure sustainable and equitable urban growth across India.
