Air Quality Life Index (AQLI)
The Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) is a well-known program that provides detailed information on how air pollution affects life expectancy in 252 countries and territories. They create annual reports on global air quality, offer region-specific analyses, maintain an interactive website, engage with communities both online and in person, and share their data openly on GitHub.
About The Role
Location: This is a remote position, but the candidate should be willing to travel up to 20% of their time to attend any in-person meetings with the AQLI team based in Delhi.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process raw satellite data into usable formats and perform necessary calculations.
- Maintain and update data on AQLI’s public GitHub repository.
- Conduct analyses and create visuals for the annual report and other outreach activities.
- Write descriptions of methods and results from analyses.
- Occasionally travel to present AQLI findings.
- Assist with data collection, cleaning, preliminary analysis, and preparation of materials for sharing.
- Work with external partners, especially website developers, to improve the AQLI platform.
- Handle other project-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience analyzing geospatial datasets using R or Python in an open-source environment. Experience with air quality datasets is preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in R, Python, or STATA; experience with geospatial datasets and database management; familiarity with open-source projects and GitHub; ability to explore data and identify relevant questions; self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks; strong team player with good communication skills; strong technical writing and presentation skills; awareness of air pollution scientific terms is a plus.
