Nature Conservancy India Solutions Private Limited (NCIS) is a subsidiary of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), one of the world’s largest non-profit conservation organizations. Established in December 2020, NCIS provides research, consulting, technical support, and advisory services related to nature conservation, biodiversity, and climate change.
About the Role
The Program Lead, Freshwater Resources will play a key role in leading and supporting NCIS’s efforts in sustainable water resource management. This includes implementing nature-based solutions, watershed protection, climate resilience strategies, and engaging with key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Program Development
- Lead innovative water resource management initiatives aligned with TNC’s mission.
- Integrate water management into broader conservation strategies.
- Develop strategies for equitable and sustainable water use, ecosystem restoration, and watershed health.
Technical Expertise and Advisory
- Provide guidance on watershed management, freshwater conservation, and restoration projects.
- Promote nature-based solutions to address drought, floods, and water scarcity.
- Support integrated water resource management (IWRM) approaches.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
- Build and maintain partnerships with governments, private sector stakeholders, and community groups.
- Represent TNC in global and regional forums on sustainable water management.
Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing
- Conduct training programs and workshops for internal teams and external partners.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms with case studies and best practices.
Project Implementation and Monitoring
- Design and implement watershed conservation plans and ecosystem-based adaptation measures.
- Establish monitoring frameworks to assess project impacts.
- Provide technical and financial progress reports.
Policy Advocacy and Fundraising
- Support advocacy for policies promoting water conservation and climate resilience.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities from various sources.
- Develop proposals and donor reports aligned with TNC’s objectives.
Deliverables
- Freshwater management strategies and action plans.
- Partnership agreements for water conservation initiatives.
- Technical and financial reports on project implementation.
- Training materials for stakeholders.
- Policy recommendations and advocacy contributions.
- Representation at regional/global conferences.
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Water Resources Management, Hydrology, or Environmental Science with specialization in Water Resource Management.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in freshwater conservation or related fields.
- Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, and private sector partners.
- Expertise in nature-based solutions, watershed management, and river restoration.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, including financial aspects and stakeholder coordination.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in hydrological modelling, GIS, and watershed management tools.
- Familiarity with ecosystem-based adaptation and IWRM frameworks.
Desired Qualifications
- 12-15 years of experience in freshwater conservation and water resource management.
- Team management experience with a strong professional network.
- On-ground implementation expertise.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical abilities.
