Bengaluru Climate Action Cell
Bengaluru’s first ever Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP) was launched on 27 November 2023 under the leadership of Shri DK Shivakumar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and Shri Tushar Girinath, Chief Commissioner, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. With the launch of BCAP, Bengaluru became the 3rd city in India to have a global standard climate action plan. The main objectives of BCAP are to mitigate Greenhouse Gas emissions from the city and build adaptation and resilience against climate change hazards in a collaborative manner, leading to inclusive outcomes for Bengaluru’s citizens.

To facilitate and spearhead implementation of BCAP as a multi-stakeholder driven collaborative process, a Climate Action Cell (CAC) has been constituted by the Hon’ble Chief Commissioner of BBMP as per the vide order no. CE/PR/216/2023-24 dated on 1/2/2024 (notification), under the Chairpersonship of the Special Commissioner, Forest, Environment, Climate Change Management wing of BBMP, Smt. Preeti Gehlot, IAS, with participation from all relevant stakeholder departments as representative members of the cell.

Fellowship Program
The CAC at BBMP is starting a program of ‘Fellows of Climate Action Cell’ from 2024, aimed towards capacitating the Bengaluru Climate Action Cell to carry out functions related to implementation of BCAP. We are looking for bright-minded young professionals passionate about climate change and civic issues to support the activities of the CAC with new perspectives, skills and innovation in solving real-life problems of Bengaluru.
The Bengaluru Climate Action Cell will engage 8 Fellows for a 12-month tenure to support the work and proceedings of the B-CAC. The 8 Fellows will be allocated different roles and responsibilities to support the various functions of the CAC. All Fellows will report on a day-to-day basis to a Project Coordinator and will work closely with Special Commissioner and Chairperson to submit deliverables aligning with BCAP priorities. All Fellows are expected to collaborate extensively across their cohort to support individual functions, to add value to the work and efforts of CAC, and to be model representatives of the CAC to internal and external stakeholders.
During the tenure, the fellows will get an opportunity to work on real problem-solving and interact with diverse stakeholders across research, academia, citizen groups, NGOs with rich experience and knowledge of working in environmental, climate change and citizen engagement. The fellows will be empowered to actively contribute to research and analysis, and communications on climate risks and vulnerabilities described in the Bengaluru Climate Action Plan. We are specifically looking for candidates with following capabilities:

Fellows Positions
- Junior Fellow: Partner Engagement and Cell Coordination - 40,000 INR/Month
- Junior Fellow: Communications and Outreach - 40,000 INR/Month
- Fellow: Data Innovation - 50,000 INR/Month
- Fellow: Local Climate Action and Civic Engagement - 50,000 INR/Month
- Senior Fellow: MER, Budgeting & Project Preparation - 60,000 INR/Month

Selection Process
The selection panel will be headed by Special Commissioner (Forest, Environment and Climate Change).
- First round of selections will be made based on eligibility criteria mentioned against each position in detailed job descriptions.
- In the second round, all shortlisted candidates will be required to take a technical and language proficiency test.
- The final round of selections will be made through a personal interview process.
